Welcome to the West Virginia State University Office of Student Financial Assistance home page. One of our many qualities, at WVSU, is our affordability.
Our site is an effort to communicate valuable information to assist individuals in securing the most beneficial financial aid package each may be eligible to receive. The most successful applicants start early by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid as soon after January 1, as possible.
Applicants should begin searching and applying for scholarship aid at least one year prior to entering West Virginia State University.
All financial aid is awarded for one year at a time. You must reapply for aid each year for the upcoming academic year. You do not have to be enrolled as a full time student to receive aid but, should generally be enrolled at least six hours. A student reapplies for aid by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The use of a federal PIN number for both students and parents (for dependent students) is recommended to complete the on-line FAFSA. Parents may use the same PIN number for multiple children. The recommended completion date for the FAFSA is March 1st. Tax information is needed to complete the FAFSA. You do not have to file your taxes by March 1st, in order to complete the FAFSA. You may estimate income information but, should correct the information once your taxes are filed for the year.
All notices of deadlines are posted on our web page and required documents notices are sent via the campus assigned e-mail provided by WVSU. No notices will be mailed. New students who are not yet admitted to WVSU will be initially contacted through the email address supplied on the FAFSA. Once students are admitted to WVSU all further notices will be sent using the campus assigned email address. Spam filters should allow e-mail from WVSU.
